Laine is just visiting the CBJ's......Torts being hard on him, or even being easy, is not changing the fact Laine controls his future. |

He's an RFA. He won't be controlling his future for a while yet. |

The offsides rule is good as it is.....the application in this game was horrendous. Let's not over complicate an already complicated rule. The real problem is that every game is a 4-point game this season and this error could keep the BJ's outta the play-offs! |

Offside is the proper call. Replay did fail in this case. I think everyone can agree that 'by rule' this goal should have been reversed. I suggest that rule is flawed. Not offside per se, but being able to review offside calls. In this case specifically, the lack of the official making an offside call did NOT directly lead to the goal.
I'm really tired of plays 'technically' offsides that do not directly lead to the goal overturning the plays. It's like if you replay for most penalties; hooking, interference, slashing etc., you would be overruling goals much of the time. There needs to be some causality. Admittedly that's hard to judge.

If an offsides is too close for a referee to call on the ice, then it likely had no effect on the play and should NOT be reviewable. It’s just the worst. For the speed of the game today I think the NHL refs do a good job, and I’m ok with them not being 100% correct on everything, it’s part of what drives emotion in sport. |

I have been reading today that Tortorella wants out of Columbus but he won't quit because of the money Involved. |

There’s a theory Tortorella wants out, that he’s forcing the Blue Jackets to fire him. Everything I hear is that’s absolutely not the case — he feels a loyalty to the organization and the players there who’ve supported him to find a way to overcome all the challenges they’ve faced. I can see Kekalainen wanting to turn down the temperature, end the drama and just play. Columbus is very much in the race, although COVID-related shutdowns have them and surprising Chicago way ahead in games played. ....Elliotte Friedman |

The NHL is working — immediately — to make certain that the Carolina/Columbus offside challenge snafu cannot happen again. Vincent Trocheck’s go-ahead 4–3 goal from Sunday’s 6–5 Hurricanes win was allowed to stand because a microphone was open that shouldn’t have been while the Situation Room in Toronto was talking to the linesmen. So, when the first replay was shown that didn’t clearly indicate an offside, something like, “That’s a good goal” was blurted out and the linesmen took it as gospel. (To his credit, NHL Executive Vice President Colin Campbell refused to name the individual involved. It was an accident, not deserving of being thrown under the bus. Besides, the higher you are up on the food chain, the more you are responsible for diving on grenades.)
Due to COVID cleaning protocols for headsets, the league was unable to re-establish contact with the in-arena officials, and the goal was announced as good before anyone could stop it. During the intermission, Campbell cancelled the Blue Jackets’ delay of game penalty for a failed challenge, even though he’s technically not supposed to do that. It was the right thing to do — another Carolina goal would have been a total disaster.
But Campbell wasn’t willing to violate Rule 37.2: “Any potential goal requiring video review must be reviewed prior to and/or during the next stoppage in play. No goal may be awarded (or disallowed) as the result of a video review once the puck has been dropped and play has resumed.”
I look at it this way: It’s in the best interests of everyone — even the Hurricanes — to make sure this type of administrative error can be eliminated. Look for the league to investigate ways of cutting out the middle man, giving the Situation Room direct ability to stop this from happening again. Elliotte Friedman |

True, but he already bridged once, so I believe he has Arbitration rights and can choose a 1 year deal, or simply sit out like Raslovic was doing in Peg. You do have control over his rights, but he does have some pull. Hopefully he quits his usual antics and just focus' on playing a 200' game. |

Yawn.
Sorry Koivou (sp?) retired, good man and great player.
But this whole post was nothing but talking about side issues, they are irrelevant.
What matters are wins and losses, and the CBJ has a ton of work to do. goalies have not played well recently, obviously the system has changed to try and score more goals but they are giving up too many. the veteran leaders are still not pulling their share of the load and the young kids are playing decently, but not enough to lift this team into the playoffs/cup contention.
The CBJ has to play real good, real soon, or this season is over. A couple years ago this team won 17 in a row with much of the same cast of characters, they are going to have to do it again starting now. |

Played awful and won last night. I guess we should be happy with what we've been given. |

I mean I'm happy, but holy crap that was a slop fest, this whole idea of the Cbj having one of the best defenses in the league is a myth.... |

You're right, and IMO it's because our defense was built on sand. Our goalie play has not been good recently, Wereski and Jones are playing too many minutes, and Torts has opened up the offense to score more goals so the D has been exposed. We have two good pairs, but the half dozen people expected to be the 3rd pair have almost to a man played awful, affecting everyone above them.

He is considering going back to Vancouver from what I hear. |

NOPE! He will be UFA when his current deal expires.... because of the number of games played. |
